High Index Lenses Still Thick

Have you tried high index lenses but were still unsatisfied with how thick they were?

My High Index Lenses Still Seem Thick

High Index Lenses Still ThickThere are several different variations of high index lenses. The higher the index, the thinner the lens. The most common high index is 1.67, but there are higher indexes available. If you have an extremely strong prescription, you might want to take a look at 1.90 high index glasses.

1.90 high index glasses are very popular in Europe but currently are less common in the United States. They are incredibly thin glass lenses made from a special composite material. Because they’re so thin they don’t suffer from distortions such as “bug eyes” the way that thicker glasses might. Also, since they’re glass they’re very scratch resistant.

There are some trade-offs that you should be aware of, however. Even though they’re extremely thin, the material will be heavier than plastic lenses. They’re also extremely brittle and prone to optical distortion at the edges. Only you can decide whether these issues are outweighed by the numerous benefits.
