Do High-Index Eyeglasses Have Everything You Are Looking For In A Pair Of Glasses?

When it is time to purchase eyeglasses, there are several decisions you will need to make some tough decisions about the type of frames that will be best for you. You will have to consider shapes, sizes, color, and the materials of all the frames. Not only will you have to make several decisions regarding your frames, you will also have to make the same important decision about the type of lenses you will need.

One of the more popular styles of lenses is high-index lenses. Many people want lenses that are thin and light, right? They also want to wear lenses that look attractive in their frames. If you are one of these people, then high-index eyeglasses could be the pair you need to choose.

High-Index Lenses? What Are Those?

When we talk about high-index lenses, we are talking about the index of refraction of the material. The index of refraction is basically a measure of how the material will bend light. When you wear lenses that are made of a high-index material, there will not be a need for a significant amount of mass to make your vision better. Since there is not a great need for mass, your lenses can be thinner than the old glasses you used to wear.

Are The Lenses Really Thinner?

Yes, the lenses are thinner. However, how much thinner the lenses are will greatly depend on the refractive index. The refractive index has a value placed on it. If the refractive index is high, your glasses will be thinner. If your refractive index is listed as 1.67 or more, your lenses will be half as thick as your older glasses. Since your lenses will be so thin, you will not have to worry about walking around with heavy lenses because they will be so light.

What Can You Add On To High-Index Lenses?

Many of us like additional features that we can add onto our glasses, right? If there are features that can effectively correct our vision, why not consider them? One of the add-ons that you should certainly consider is ant-reflective coating. Since your glasses will reflect light, you may have some problems here and there, especially if you have to drive regularly at night.

When you have anti-reflective coating on your glasses, the reflections of light on your lenses will be eliminated. Since there will not be any reflections on your lenses, you will be able to drive comfortably at night because you will not have to worry about reflections and glare preventing you from seeing the way you need to.

When you choose to add an anti-reflective coating to your glasses, it is also another way to improve the look and appeal of your glasses. Sometimes you may even forget you are wearing them because of how well the anti-reflective coating works.

Another add-on that you should certainly consider is scratch-resistant coating. If you think your glasses have a chance of being scratched and dinged, you can have a scratch-resistant coating applied to them. With this coating, your lenses will have the durability you need in a pair of glasses.

If you do have the scratch-resistant coating added to your glasses or if the coating is already applied when you receive them, you should make sure you keep them safe when you are not wearing them. There are many different cases that you can choose from to keep your glasses protected. When you take your glasses out of the case to clean them, you should always use either water or a cleaning solution that is designed for use on your lenses.

If you are still not sure about what type of glasses you need or if you now know that high-index lenses are right for you, do not be afraid to seek the assistance of your eye doctor.
